Happy First Birthday Emma

Happy 1st birthday to our darling daughter! Emma turned 1 on July 29th and what an amazing year it has been. Before Emma, it was sometimes hard to imagine what our family would be like with another little person and after she arrived, we could not remember our lives before her. She is the light and love of all our lives, especially her big brother's. Here are a few fun facts:

Weight: 18 lbs. 6 oz.
Height: 27.8 inches
Favorite food: graham crackers and cantaloupe
Favorite game: peek-a-boo
Favorite book: Pat the Bunny
Favorite toy: anything that her brother is playing with

So far Emma has proven to have a very strong personality. She is a I-know-exactly-what I-want-kind-of-girl and is not afraid to show it. She is extremely loving, affectionate, spunky, and playful....but equally as emotional and sensitive. She loves to drop whatever she is doing and spontaneously crawl over to you to for a quick hug and kiss and then she is off to her next adventure. She loves to get into anything and everything so we can already tell she is going to be quite the handful!

We cannot believe our little girl is one and we are so thankful for all the precious moments she has given us this past year. Since we now really know how fast time flies, this is truly a bittersweet milestone. So, to our sweet little girl, we love you with every ounce of our heart and soul and wish you many, many, many more beautiful birthdays like this one.

In keeping with a Vietnamese tradition, on a child's 1st birthday, you lay out a few ordinary household objects (pen, calculator, money, scissors, book) and whtaever the child picks up and plays with the most is supposed to give an indication of what he/she will be when they grow up. After laying out the objects, Emma sat and stared at the objects from afar for a good 15 minutes before she crawled over there. When she finally made it over there, she picked up the compact mirror. Does that mean when she grows up she will spend a lot of time looking at herself in the mirror? :)
