San Diego Vacation

In early October we took our annual vacation with our friends Carman and Todd and their daughter Annika. We started this tradition about 8 years ago and look forward to it every year...and this year was extra special since this was the first trip with both Jake and Annika. This year's destination spot was San Diego...a first for the Yuen Family and we absolutely fell in love with it. Although not as warm as we hoped, we still enjoyed 4 days of pool time, a little shopping (for the Moms), a round of golf (for the Dads), and just plain ol' lounging around time.

There was a perfect kiddie size pool - only 1 ft deep! Jake loved being able to squat down in the pool but still be above water.
Jake lounging in a child-sized plush robe without a care in the world. On the hotel grounds, there was also a mini-playground which was a perfect morning activity until it got warm enough to head to the pool.
Determined to enjoy our Sunday Brunch, we bribed Jake with rare treats: ice cream and cookies (almost as big as his head!) in an effort to keep him entertained and seated at the table while we enjoyed our meal.

Doing what he loves the most...kicking a ball around.

Swimming Lessons

I'm sure all parents can relate to wanting things for your kids that you either had growing up or didn't have growing up...for Mom, it is learning how to swim! As an adult who is quite fearful of the water, I definitely want Jake to learn to swim at an early age and be comfortable in the water. So we recently signed him up for weekly swim lessons at the Peninsula Jewish Community Center. The first lesson was pretty tough as he cried for the first 10 minutes of the class but soon calmed down and realized how much fun it was to splash in the water. From that point on, he hasn't looked back and we can see major improvements from week to week.

Fortunately, Jake is used to getting his head wet during his bath time but I think he enjoys this activity the most since he also gets to pour water on Dad's head.

Another big plus to the swim lesson is that he gets to take it with his friend Annika! Annika is Auntie Carman and Uncle Todd's daughter who is almost 11 months. She is also Mom's goddaughter and we are all thrilled that the two of them are in the same class together.
