Soon-to -be Big Brother Jake

Although we have tried to prepare Jake for the arrival his new brother or sister, we don't think he really understands what is going to change. We've taken him to a couple of the prenatal appointments and he loves to hear the heartbeat of the baby and will often ask if the food Mommy is eating is going to the baby too.

In addition to welcoming his new sibling, another big change for Jake is that he is getting a new room! We are moving him into our third bedroom which is currently our office. So Dad spent a whole week moving our office stuff out and painting and putting together all new furniture for his new room. We also transitioned him from his crib to his very first big boy bed! Of course, he has been fascinated watching Dad put his new bed together and he loves to do everything his Dad does so naturally he wanted to help...

The fascination with power tools seems to start at such a young age...:)

Jake's 3rd Birthday

Every year on Jake's birthday, it is the perfect time for us to reflect back on all the milestones he reached in the past year. His 3rd birthday was no exception. There are moments when we hardly recognize this inquisitive, talkative, independent, sweet and playful toddler from just a year ago. His favorite activities are still playing ball, cars, trains and Legos (thanks to his Dad who has also rediscovered his own fascination with Legos).

The biggest milestone he reached just days after his birthday was his first day of preschool. This was one of those moments when we knew it was something he was ready for and would benefit a great deal from, but it was also a hard one to accept as it signaled our first real "letting go" moment. Although he is certainly a long way off from being all grown up, it certainly felt that way that first day. But he seems to be adjusting well and has already made a couple of friends whom he talks about frequently.
